Back from Abroad: Our English College Experience

An intense two-month study abroad: challenges, exams, friendships, and personal growth through language and cultural immersion.

Here we are. Our experience abroad is over. Now we understand why 2 months were scheduled: it’s the first period of school that ends with a week of vacation.

As far as we understand, the system here provides 2 intense months of study of some subjects of choice.

A choice that, as in our case, is shared with the principal because it is linked to personal interests but is aimed at preparing for entry into English and international universities.

Here it is not aimed at the broadest possible general culture, but at specialisations, in the belief that learning the English language is the key to accessing the best universities.

And that’s why the students don’t go out in the evening, on the weekend, they don’t visit London, as we would have expected. They study intensively for two months, in classes of a few elements with a personal and direct relationship with the teachers who are called you and are called by name as a more experienced peer.

After two months there are exams, very difficult for everyone, and then a break.

Now the college has been emptied: someone has gone home, someone to London, someone to relatives; only the Orientals have stayed because they are too far from home.

We sadly said goodbye to our new companions who also became friends. We will keep in touch with some, others will have been a meteor in our lives.

The enrichment activity in recent days has been reduced because there are few of us. For us who are about to return home, the same anxiety is being prepared that we felt on arrival: the unknown of having to start something new, of meeting new teachers, new subjects, and catching up with what we have left behind.

That’s life! There is always a new beginning!

But we know that we have been enriched in several aspects, first of all in the English language, but also in the ability to adapt, in the team spirit and the ability to work together, and in respect for cultures different from ours.

If you have the chance, we recommend that you try an unforgettable experience like this.

See you soon at Malignani.
